What is Chlorella? 

We owe their discovery to the Dutch microbiologist Martinus Willem Beijerinck, who first described them in 1889. He was a co-founder of virology and also made a name for himself with some research. Although it was discovered only at the end of the 19th century, the Chlorella alga has existed much longer. It has already colonized our planet for 2.5 billion years.

Chlorella is a unicellular freshwater alga belonging to the genus of green algae (Chlorobionta). This genus includes about two dozen species, of which Chlorella Vulgaris is the most common. With a diameter of 2 to 10 µm - hardly larger than a red blood cell - the microscopically small alga can be found in various forms in the trade. We offer live Chlorella cultivated in closed water tanks and not subjected to any processing procedures.

Chlorella algae can be taken in various dosage forms - the microalgae are available as tablets, powder, pellets or capsules. The situation is different in liquid form: since the liquid is not processed by drying or extrusion, all valuable micronutrients are fully preserved. Waldkraft's live chlorella also has a thinner shell than conventional chlorella algae. This thinner shell is easier to break open and thus enables good bioavailability, i.e. good absorption capacity in the human body.

Even though the microalgae are repeatedly referred to as "Chlorela" or "Klorella", the correct spelling is "Chlorella". The name of the dark green aquatic plant comes from the Greek and is composed of chloros = green and ella = small. The moss-green color is due to the particularly high chlorophyll content.
