Giardia screen for dogs and cats - meaningful laboratory check

Giardia are single-celled intestinal parasites that can cause diarrhea and other gastrointestinal problems in dogs and cats. The parasites attach themselves to the intestinal wall and are excreted with the feces.

Giardia can be detected directly by antigen detection or microscopically (parasitological examination), whereby antigen detection is recommended in case of a concrete suspicion due to its higher sensitivity.

NOTE - PLEASE NOTE: Due to the high sensitivity, this test is not recommended after a chemical deworming, because then also the dead Giardia are recorded and it can lead to a false positive result. An interval of 2 months is useful to obtain a correct result.

Procedure and implementation

1. You will receive everything you need for the test, i.e. the complete shipping material to the laboratory.
2. You fill the fecal tube 3/4 full with your quadruped's feces. It is important that you collect the feces over 3 days, because the parasites are not excreted every day.
3. You fill in the form you receive.
4. You send the tube and the completed form to the laboratory in the enclosed envelope.
5. After approx. 2-3 weeks you will receive the laboratory result, the evaluation as well as recommendations and a shopping list, prepared by our animal healers. In addition, we offer you the opportunity to be advised again personally by a therapist.
