Our eggshell meal provides a readily utilizable animal source of calcium for daily feeding. The fine powder not only ensures that the calcium requirement is met, but also balances out the high phosphorus content of the meat. Indeed, the secret of healthy raw feeding lies in an optimal calcium-phosphorus ratio.  

Calcium requirement for dogs and cats

The daily calcium requirement for pets is about 50-90 mg Ca/kg body weight. A dog weighing 20 kilograms needs on average about 1400 mg of calcium per day, an adult cat about 400 mg (80 mg calcium/kg body weight). Pregnant and lactating bitches need a double dose of the vital mineral: about 180 mg Ca/kg body weight. Growing puppies are true calcium eaters: to form their skeleton in the first months of life, they need to be fed up to six times the amount of calcium.

1 gram of pure eggshell flour contains about 370 mg of calcium.

  Due to the increased susceptibility to kidney problems in older and very old dogs and cats, it is recommended - depending on the kidney values - to prophylactically reduce the phosphorus content in the food somewhat.

Larger particles of eggshell are excreted in their entirety, without the contained calcium could be absorbed.
