The chlorine dioxide solution (CDL, CDS in English) is mainly used for drinking water treatment. Since 2011, it has been an approved disinfectant, recorded in the German Drinking Water Ordinance. Mainly due to its oxidative properties as well as its unique molecular structure, it trumps even chlorine and ozone. We have referred to the original formulation in the manufacture of our product and use demineralized ultrapure water and chlorine dioxide in 0.3 percent concentration.

In the distillation process, chlorine dioxide is introduced as a pure gas into cooled water and bound in it. At Waldkraft, you can order CDL that is highly pure and free of additives or contaminants. Since the manufacturing process is very complex and lengthy, the chlorine dioxide content in the final product may vary minimally, which of course has no effect on the application. The typical yellow color of the CDL is minimally lighter than that of the chlorine dioxide - from which, among other things, the high purity can be recognized, since no other coloring substances are present.
What is CDL and what is it used for?
Chlorine dioxide (ClO2) is a radical with oxidizing properties, consisting of chlorine and oxygen atoms. At room temperature, chlorine dioxide is a yellow, volatile gas with a pungent, chlorine-like odor - dissolved in water, as a ready-to-use solution, CDL should therefore always be stored in the refrigerator. It is often used instead of elemental chlorine, as this significantly improves its general compatibility.
Public drinking water disinfection: chlorine dioxide trumps chlorine & ozone
Chlorine dioxide has been part of the German Drinking Water Ordinance since 2011 and conforms to DIN EN 12671 as a product "for the treatment of water intended for human consumption". Among other things, it is used to improve the taste and odor of drinking water when it is contaminated by rotten algae or plant residues.

- Approved maximum concentration for chlorine dioxide after disinfection (DE): 0.2 mg/L (recommended is 0.05 mg/L).
- Approved maximum concentration for chlorine dioxide after disinfection (CH): 0.05 mg/L
Unlike chlorine, it is also effective against viruses and many protozoa in drinking water. In addition, chlorine dioxide forms less chlorinated hydrocarbons from organic material, so-called organochlorine compounds, such as chloroform, dichloroacetic acid or trichloroacetic acid.
Chlorine dioxide is also the gentler oxidant of choice than the ozone used as an alternative. At Waldkraft, you buy CDL, which forms less harmful bromates when it reacts with water.
Advantages of CDL over freshly activated MMS
MMS is a 2-component agent consisting of sodium chlorite and an acid that still has to be activated. CDL is an already activated, ready-to-use solution for safe dosage and application.

- Pure CDL contains no additional acid, so it is more neutral in taste.
- CDL is already bound in water and therefore more odorless than freshly activated MMS.
The ready-to-use chlorine dioxide solution has a limited shelf life and should definitely be stored in the refrigerator. Due to the highly volatile nature of chlorine dioxide, it is also important to use up the solution quickly and to open it as rarely as possible. Otherwise, gaseous chlorine dioxide will escape each time the solution is opened. If too much chlorine dioxide has escaped, the solution loses its yellowish color and becomes paler. If you notice something like this, your CDL did not go "bad", but lost some of its effectiveness over the months.

CDL is the easy and safe way to disinfect your drinking water. Chlorine dioxide is used very simply for drinking water treatment: You take the practical dosing pipette and, in accordance with the German Drinking Water Ordinance, add the appropriate number of drops to the water for the amount of liquid and wait. Germs, bacteria and fungi are killed by the high-quality agent, so that in the end you have drinkable, germ-free water. The effect is based on osmosis, the CDL dosage depends on the amount of available water. Of course you can not only buy ready-made CDL in our store, but also Chlorine dioxide for self-production.

The most important characteristic of oxidizing agents is their oxidation strength measured in volts, the so-called ORP (Oxidation Reduction Potential). Oxygen, for example, has an ORP of 1.3 volts. This oxidation strength is sufficient to oxidize toxins in the body. However, it is not enough to attack the healthy cells or benign bacteria that the body needs.
Chlorine dioxide, on the other hand, has an ORP of only 0.95 volts - and thus can oxidize virtually nothing in the human body. Especially not benign bacteria, as is often assumed. Since these use oxygen themselves, they would need at least 1.45 volts to oxidize. Pathogens, such as harmful bacteria and parasites, are fortunately structured differently as anaerobic microorganisms. They do not use oxygen and are therefore far less resistant to oxidation by chlorine dioxide.
