Even if the definition of BARF (Biological Species Appropriate Raw Feeding) only addresses fresh meat, high-quality BARF supplements are inevitably part of the healthy eating style. Because only appropriate supplementation in the food bowl makes the thing round and the feeding complete. Thus algae lime - similar to eggshell meal - supplies very well absorbable calcium in the form of calcium carbonate, but is also rich in magnesium as well as trace elements. The pure natural product covers the calcium needs of dogs and cats in a natural way and balances the excess phosphorus from meat feeding, which can otherwise lead to kidney problems. What is algal lime?

Algal lime is obtained from mineralized, sedimented deposits of red algae that occur in marginal, thinned marine areas. Lithothamnium calcareum - its botanical name - is a stony algae of intense red color, which turns to white when dried. Ground to a fine powder, red algae serve as a high-quality calcium supplement for dogs and cats, but above all as a valuable source of calcium. With 32% calcium algal lime contains almost as much of the vital mineral as eggshell meal (37%), but also provides comparatively high magnesium (7-10%) and trace elements such as silicic acid, iodine, selenium, zinc, and copper.  

Phosphorus balance

Since phosphorus is hardly contained in algal calcium (less than 01.1%), the BARF additive is suitable as a perfect counterpart to meat, the proverbial "piece of vitality", which in turn provides a lot of phosphorus. In this way, the calcium powerhouse from the sea balances out the phosphorus surplus in the body, which can result from the meat-heavy diet and cause illnesses. Our seaweed lime can optimize the calcium-phosphorus ratio in the feed and is recommended for predominantly raw feeding without bones.

Waldläufer Algal Lime was developed for dogs and cats that do not get bones - and bone meal. Indeed, many pet owners refrain from feeding bones due to allergies or digestive problems - the so-called bone feces is widespread.  

Conclusion:

The pure algae lime is an optimal, purely vegetable source of minerals with a natural calcium content of 32%. The vital mineral with high biological availability covers the daily calcium requirement of dogs and cats and at the same time compensates for the increased phosphorus content of the meat. It is usually tolerated without problems by allergic, sick or older animals. The ultra-fine grind ensures that the minerals calcium and magnesium contained are utilized as good as completely.
 

The daily requirement of calcium in dogs and cats is approx. 50 - 90 mg Ca/kg body weight. Pregnant and lactating animals as well as puppies and kittens in growth require up to 180 mg Ca/kg body weight.

To neutralize the excess of phospores in raw feeding, we recommend in the case of:

500 g beef without fat 1 tsp
500 g beef head meat 1/2 tsp
500 g beef heart 1 tsp
500 g beef rumen 1/2 tsp
500 g horse meat 1/2 tsp
500 g turkey meat

Note

• If your pet is prone to struvite stones, you should avoid using algal lime as the sole source of calcium. It also contains a lot of magnesium, which promotes the formation of crystals in the urine of dogs and cats. 

• Caution with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism treated with medication: Algal lime also contains a small amount of iodine.

• As an alternative, our eggshell flour is suitable.
